Obituary of Gerald Albrecht
Obituary Jerry Albrecht was born in Eatonia Saskatchewan August 20th 1934. He was the second of seven children born to Elsie and Otto Albrecht.Jerry started working on the oil rigs in his late teen years. During that time he met and married Pat Bain. They would now be celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. As soon as the marriage began, so did the traveling. The oil rigs would have Pat and Jerry in Oxbow, Saskatchewan Cathy was born. They lived in many different locations through the years including Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. They settled in Fort St. John in 1960 where Sandy was born. The family was on the move again a few years later heading this time to Taylor where Jerry was now employed by Westcoast Transmission. In 1965 they packed up and moved again to Victoria where Jerry completed his Millwright ticket. While in Victoria, Scott was born.As we all know the Peace River country has a way of pulling you back, and therefore in 1968 the entire family moved back to Fort St. John. From that time on, Fort St. John was home, aside from one year in Fort Nelson.Through the years Jerry worked for Scurry Rainbow, Curtis Hoover/Peacock, until his retirement at the age of 60.Jerry has always had a love for the outdoors. Some of our favourite times with Jerry would have involved fishing, camping, boating, skidooing or all of the above! His favourite times were when he was parked by a river with his family with the biggest camp fire around ? to this day his children and grandchildren still build their camp fires from twigs and leaves. THE REAL WAY ? the way grandpa taught us....no gas allowed!!!Camping started out in a truck and camper and eventually progressed to a trailer, then a motorhome. The camping tradition must be in the genes because it is a cherished pastime that is still carried on by his children and grandchildren. Even the great grandchildren have the camping bug!In the 1990?s Jerry?s health began to fail. For the last few years he was rarely able to leave the house. His spirit was owned by the outdoors and when he was limited to the indoors it was broken. As his health deteriorated, he was surrounded by his attentive and loving wife, as well as his children.Jerry passed away peacefully May 14th, 2008. He will be remembered for his love of all things outdoors, his loyal K-9 companions, and stories of the oilpatch. His recliner may sit empty now, but we know he is somewhere by the lake casting away, and enjoying a roaring campfire. Jerry is predeceased by his father Otto and mother Elsie. He is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Cathy and husband Mike, daughter Sandy and husband Mike, son Scott and wife Penny. Also leaving to mourn are seven grandchildren, Tyler, Jody, Kelsey, Connor, Kelly, Samantha, Sydney and five great grandchildren Riley, Carter, Brook, Maisie and Makaylee. He is also survived by two sisters Dinah, Linda and four brothers Gordon, Mervin, Clem and Clyde.
