I knew Dave, Craig and Steve from my days in Fort St. John through their father John. I moved to the peace country in 1975 to fly for Baltic Drilling. John took me 'under his wings' and oriented me to flying in the north country. He gave me full authorization to fly his Cessna 185 (on wheels and floats) which I was only one of a few ever permitted to do so. I met Dave at his families business when visiting John. Wonderful family, treasured times. True legends in the north country.

I was shocked to hear about this. As many others will say and have memories of Dave being a great man I will share that. I have known Dave for over 50 years and though the meetings have been few they were always sincere and friendly. He spoke what he felt and always from his heart. An opinion that was intelligent and fair. Although it has been over fifty years it seems like a short time since we were kids in a small town playing hockey. I was deeply saddened to learn of Dave's passing! I had a lot of respect for Dave. He was definitely one of the "good guys", as is clearly evidenced by the many comments here! The world needs more "good guys" and Dave will certainly be missed. My sincere condolences to Donna and the entire Okrainec family! Tova & I send our condolences to Donna, Steve and Dave's extended family. It was great to become friends again with Dave after the all of the years gone by. Dave wasn't only a coach to me, but he was also a mentor. He made me a better hockey player. As my Arizona golf partner, we became good friends. I'll miss the banter, jokes and him constantly telling me how bad my short game was (he was magic around the greens). But it was all in good fun, like friends can do.
